How to Praise God using Scripture Bailey, May 29, 2026 Praying Scripture can be tricky, especially if you’ve never been taught how to pray Scripture. Its easy to learn though and in my opinion not only grows your prayer life, but can make praying easier when you can’t find the words you want to say. God’s Word is powerful and can be used to pray over people, situations, repent, thank God and praise Him. I’ve recently started praying Scripture more, using my Prayer Notebook and I love it so much! It helps me be more speific in my prayers, but also grow in my understanding and memorization of the Bible. List of Verses to Praise The Book of Psalms is an obvious choice, because it is filled with praise. Almost any chapter has verses that you can easily use to praise God. I also really enjoy using the prophets and other books. The psalms are easier, while other books are filled with praise, but you have to really read and pay attention to the verses and look for the deeper meaning. I’ll show examples of what I mean below. Psalm 68, 34, 27, 46, 48, 91, 104, (and so many others) Jeremiah 31:33-34 Ezekiel 11: 18-20 Luke 1:46-55 Philippians 2:5-11 Revelation 22: 16 How to Pray Scripture (praising) PART 1 Scripture-“The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—whom should I dread?” Ps 27:1 Praise- God, You are my light and my salvation. No one is Greater than You, and You rule over everything. Nothing happens without Your knowledge. You alone are capable of protecting me, not anything in this world can. Note-Try not to make it about you, but focus on God. Not about our breakthroughs or victories, but about Who God is and what He does. Its a fine line, sometimes, because He rescues us, but remember that’s not why He deserves praise. He deserves our worship, because of Who He is. The bold is the more obvious praise/traits of God, the italicized is more hidden. Its implying that God is greater than all. PART 2 Scripture-“The LORD examines the righteous but [He] hates the wicked and those who love violence.” Ps 11:5 Praise-God, You alone are all knowing and are just. You protect the innocent and punish the wicked. You are righteous. Note-This was harder, because it didn’t plainly describe God, but I had to think/study what the verse was actually saying. Praise and thanksgiving isn’t the same thing, but it can be easy to combine them. I try to keep them seperate, because they aren’t the same and God deserves both. The italicized section is again more implied, because it it saying that God is justice and cares about those who are helpless. He is compassionate. PART 3 Scripture-“Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, [Who} dwells in Zion, [My] holy mountain. Jerusalem will be holy and foreigners will never overrun it again.” Prayer-Lord, You alone are God and are holy. Thank You for this promise that one day there will be peace in the world. Make us holy as You are holy. Holy, holy is the Lord our God. Note-I wrote out a complete prayer, vs only a praise. Praise in the first sentence, thanksgiving in the second, request in the third and then I praised again in the fourth. (You don’t have to follow this pattern to pray, but this is how I pray personally.) Tips- Practice–Start with easier verses and then pray with harder ones Don’t forget to Praise and Thank Him Praying with Scripture grows your prayer life and your Bible knowledge at the same time Remember we praise God, because of who He is and we thank Him for what He has done Dear God, please help us to grow in prayer and in a closer relationship with You. You are mighty and a loving Father that gives good gifts to us. Please give us the ability to pray Scripture and understand what it means and to hide it in our hearts. I thank You for this Jesus. In Jesus’ name I pray amen. Devotionals
